John Haskins

Born in Bermondsey, London, John gained his City and Guilds Diploma in illustration at art school and had a successful early career as a Chief Technical illustrator. Throughout this time John continued to pursue his love of painting. After exhibiting in London over a period of years, he took up painting on a full-time basis.

This decision enabled him to combine his passion for travelling with the opportunity to paint and collect material from around the world, as well as stage successful one-man shows and exhibitions in international locations such as Australia, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Madrid, New York and Paris. Also, many of John's works have been reproduced on magazine front covers, prints, calendars, greeting cards and book illustrations.

Working today from his studio at home in the Bedfordshire countryside, many of his paintings reflect the atmosphere and colour of his surroundings. His lifelong attention to detail lends an authenticity to the rural scenes he depicts. John is married with two daughters, who frequently appear as subjects of his paintings. His work vividly evokes all the nostalgic charm of childhood.

"This year I returned to Italy for inspiration, taking in Rome and the surrounding countryside. I wanted to record not just the splendour of the main attractions but also to capture some of the flavour of the side-streets."
